What We Do
Relief of Poverty
At Haven of Rest we promote the relief of financial hardship. This includes the relief of suffering among victims of natural or other kinds of disaster, through the provision of grants, items and services to individuals in need.
We aim to empower individuals who find themselves in such circumstances to build sustainable livelihoods for a better quality of life. In partnership with local agencies, we may also provide training, education, and all the necessary support designed to enable individuals to launch or expand a micro-enterprise that will generate a sustainable income.
Haven of Rest believes that people have capacity to make a difference in their own lives when empowered to do so. It is our goal to empower the world’s poorest individuals to develop their potentials and strengthen their own communities.
HIV/AIDS
HIV/AIDs is a modern day epidemic that cuts across all barriers known to man. At first, it was thought to just be a gay community plague but it has since then been identified as a condition that impacts all aspects of humanity. Most world leaders have recognised the magnitude of this plague and are joining forces with health and other charitable organizations to combat it and meet the needs of people.
Would you consider how to help people to have a grasp of how HIV/AIDS affect lives and how everyone of us can make a difference? At Haven of Rest we have developed a training package that will help to equip small groups in churches and other communities. This training is focused on how to deal with the issues faced by individuals affected by HIV/AIDS.
The aims of this training includes:
1.
Provision of adequate information about HIV/AIDS to empower trained individuals to become educators.
2.
Enabling Christian groups to become points of help, information and training regarding HIV/AIDS.
3.
Motivating church leaders to see the global picture and rise up to help just like Jesus would.
4.
Development of training strategies that will foster good communication skills for trained HIV/AIDS helpers.
5.
Behavioural information that favours positive inclusion, growth and advancement of the gospel.
General Health Care
Today, the world is facing health challenges that are compromising the quality of life for children, families and may impact on future generations.
SOME PAINFUL FACTS:
1.
More than 3.5 million children under the age of five die from diarrhoea and acute respiratory infections annually.
2.
One child dies every four seconds from preventable and treatable causes, due to the lack of basic healthcare.
3.
A child in Africa dies from malaria every 30 seconds. Think about it - that would be more than over a million lives lost per year. This disease is not only preventable but treatable.
Haven of Rest (working with other agencies) aim to make our communities disease-free. Through focused seminars, provision of training resources and much needed health supplies towards the relief of sickness, we will achieve global health and wellbeing.
Educational Program
Haven of Rest Educational Program (HoREP) is an academic sponsorship program targeted at less privileged children. Some of these may have a strong desire for a solid education but are at risk of dropping out of school due to financial hardship. Our sponsorship program provides assistance with school fees, text books (including writing materials), uniforms and meeting other educational necessities that we consider appropriate.
Our aim is to promote within our communities a mindset of success and a sense of accomplishment for all (young and old). The importance of a good education and training as an essential tool for the alleviation of poverty cannot be overemphasised. A well educated individual will be empowered to develop to their full capacity.

In times of need, spiritual care serves as a living reminder of the presence, love and care of Jesus.
